DAY 04 KOHIMA

FULL DAY VISIT 2ND WORLD WAR CEMETERY, STATE MUSEUM + KHONOMA VILLAGE INHABITED BY THE WESTERN ANGAMI TRIBE.

DAY 05 KOHIMA/MOKOKCHUNG

TODAY AFTER BREAKFAST DRIVE TO MOKOKCHUNG (120 KMS/ 4 ½ HRS). ENROUTE VISIT TSIMINYU VILLAGE INHABITED BY THE RENGMA TRIBE, LONGSA VILLAGE INHABITED BY LOTHA TRIBE AT WOKHA.

DAY 06 MOKOKCHUNG/MON

TODAY AFTER BREAKFAST DRIVE TO MON (280 KMS/ 7-8 HRS).

MON – SITUATED AT AN ALTITUDE OF 897 METRES ABOVE SEA LEVEL, MON IS THE HOME OF THE KONYAK NAGAS. HEREDITARY CHIEFS KNOWN AS ANGHS (CHIEF) RULE THE KONYAK AND THE INSTITUTIONS OF ANGHSHIP PREVAIL ONLY TO THE KONYAK NAGA TRIBE. IT IS INTERESTING TO SEE TATTOOED FACES, WEARING FEATURED HEAD GEARS AND WAR TRADITIONAL DRESSES. THEY ARE KNOWN FOR EXCELLENT WOOD CARVING, HANDICRAFT AND BLACKSMITHER.

DAY 07 MON

THIS MORNING DRIVE TO LONGWA VILLAGE (57 KMS / 02 HRS DRIVE), ONE OF THE BIGGEST VILLAGES IN MON DISTRICT, THE VILLAGE STRADDLES THE INTERNATIONAL BOUNDARY BETWEEN INDIA AND MYANMAR WITH HALF OF THE ANGH’S HOUSES FALLING WITHIN INDIA AND THE REMAINDER IN BURMA. ENROUTE WE VISIT TANG VILLAGE. ALSO VISIT SHENGHA CHINGNYU VILLAGE. LATER IN THE AFTERNOON RETURN TO MON

DAY 08 MON/DIBRUGARH

AFTER BREAKFAST DRIVE TO DIBRUGARH (180 KMS/ 6 HRS) ENROUTE VISIT SIVSAGAR IN THE TOWN OF SIVASAGAR, ONE CAN STILL SEE THE REMAINING WELL PRESERVED RELICS. THE LARGEST AND THE OLDEST AMPI-THEATRE OF ASIA (RANG GHAR) IS ALSO ANOTHER REMARKABLE LANDMARK IN THE HISTORY OF SIVASAGAR. THE TAI- AHOM MUSEUM OF SIVASAGAR CONTAINS SOME OF THE RELICS OF THE AHOM PERIOD LIKE – SWORDS, CLOTHES, MANUSCRIPTS AND SUNDRY ARTIFACTS.

CONTINUE DRIVE TO DIBRUGARH & CHECK-IN AT HOTEL LOCATED AMIDST TEA ESTATES

DAY 09 DIBRUGARH/DIGBOI/NAMPHAKE/DIBRUGARH

TODAY POST BREAKFAST WE TO DIGBOI (80 KMS/01 ½ HRS), THE FIRST OIL TOWN OF SOUTH ASIA. VISIT THE OIL MUSEUM AND THE 2ND WORLD WAR ALLIED FORCES CEMETERY WHERE 200 GRAVES ARE PERMANENTLY MAINTAINED BY THE COMMONWEALTH WAR GRAVES COMMISSION. LATER WE DRIVE TO TAI PHAKIAL VILLAGE (35 KMS/ 45 MINS) - AN ETHNIC VILLAGE WHOSE KITH AND KIN DATE BACK TO THE AHOM PERIOD. THE VILLAGERS STILL MAINTAIN THEIR AGE-OLD CULTURE - A VILLAGE WORTH EXPLORING.

NAMPHAKE VILLAGE IS THE LARGEST OF THE THAI-PHAKE VILLAGES IN ASSAM, BOASTING 70 ODD FAMILIES, WHICH TRACE THEIR ANCESTRY TO THE GREAT THAI RACE. THE VILLAGE FOLK SPEAK A DIALECT SIMILAR TO THE LANGUAGE IN THAILAND AND STILL FOLLOW THE TRADITIONAL CUSTOMS AND DRESS CODE OF THE GREAT TAI RACE. THE HAMLET IS ALSO HOME TO THE NAMPHAKE BUDDHIST MONASTERY, ONE OF THE OLDEST AND MOST RESPECTED BUDDHIST MONASTERIES IN ASSAM. THEY ARE BUDDHIST IN RELIGION. THEY HAVE THEIR OWN SEPARATE SCRIPTS AND HAS ALSO PRESERVED IN A FEW MANUSCRIPTS, WHICH ARE MAINLY RELIGIOUS SCRIPTURES. THESE MANUSCRIPTS ARE WRITTEN IN TAI-SCRIPTS, WHICH ARE PRESERVED IN THEIR VILLAGE VIHARS.

DAY 10 DIBRUGARH/MAJOLI

AFTER BREAKFAST DRIVE TO NEEMATIGHAT, JORHAT (130 KMS/ 4½ HRS) FOR FERRY CROSSING (1 HR DOWNSTREAM BOAT CRUISE- THE TIME DEPENDS UPON THE WATER LEVEL OF THE RIVER) TO MAJULI - THE LARGEST INHABITED RIVER ISLAND IN THE WORLD AND FAMOUS FOR THE VAISHNAVITE SATRAS OR MONASTERIES (KAMALABARI SATRA, AUNIATI SATRA, BENGENATI SATRA, AND MANY MORE) AND CULTURE. IT IS NESTLED BETWEEN THE CONFLUENCE OF THE SUBANSIRI AND THE BRAHMAPUTRA RIVER. VISIT THE MONASTERIES AND INTERFACE WITH THE TRIBES ON THE ISLAND. (NOT BETWEEN JUN TO SEP).

DAY 11 MAJOLI/KAZIRANGA

AFTER BREAKFAST AGAIN FERRY CROSSING ON BRAHMAPUTRA & THEN DRIVE TO KAZIRANGA (190 KMS/4 HRS)

KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK IS A WORLD HERITAGE SITE, WHERE MORE THAN 75% OF THE WORLD’S TOTAL POPULATION OF THE GREAT INDIAN ONE HORNED RHINOCEROS CAN BE FOUN. (OPN 01 NOV TO 30 April)

DAY 12 KAZIRANGA/GUWAHATI TO DELHI OR KOLKATA
