Early morning train to Chandigarh (0740/1100 hrs) & straight drive to Manali (10 hrs)
Am: Naggar: situated about 20 kms. From Manali and commands a splendid view of the valley. Naggar was the capital of Kulu rajas for about 1400 years. Nagar castle, a huge beautiful building which serves as castle hotel is of great attraction. The paintings of late Nicholas Roerich can be seen at the Roerich museum of paintings in a white-washed villa set in a jewel-like garden. Also visit Roerich artist gallery.
Pm: Hadimba temple, four tier pagoda temple in the thick deodar forest, Manali village. Ancient temple under the rock is dedicated to Manu.
After breakfast leave for Keylong via Rohtang pass (3980 m). After Rohtang pass the land Scape becomes barren and road via Gramphu village.
In Keylong, if wish can do visit local monastery across the river by walking (apx 2hrs 30 minutes in total).
After breakfast drive Keylong/Sarchu. Cross over Baralacha la pass. On arrival check in at camp.
After breakfast leave for leh (230kms/09-10hrs) via lachulangla pass (5065 m) and tanglangla (5360m). The drive is voa most scenic more plains.
Leh: amidst starkly beautiful and majestic mountains gradually merging into an oasis of green fields, Leh is situated on the banks of the Indus, at a height of 11,000 ft. For seven months a year, Leh airport is Ladakh’s only link with the outside world. The mosque city palace, the bazaar and Gompa’s are all within walking distance.
After breakfast, full day visit to Shey, Hemis & excursion to Thiksey.
Shey – situated on a hillock 15 kms upstream from Leh, it was once the residence of the royal family. According to tradition, it was the seat of power of pre-Tibetan kings. A 7.5 Meter high copper statue of Buddha plated with gold and the largest of its kind is installed here.
Thiksey – 19 kms from and Leh spectacularly sighted, Thikse is one of the largest and architecturally most impressive gompas. There are several temples in this gompa containing images, stupas and wall paintings of Buddha, which are exquisite.
Hemis – 40 kms from leh it is the wealthiest best known and biggest gompa of ladakh. Its popularity stems from the major annual festival held here in summer. The festival is in honour of guru padma sambhav’s birth anniversary. It also has the largest thanks in ladakh, which is unfurled once in 12 years (next in 2004). Hemis was built in 1630 during the reign of sengge namgyal, an illustrious ruler of ladakh. It flourished under the namgyal dynasty for the royalty favored for drugkpa sect.
After breakfast leave for nimo village & commence 4-5 hrs trek till likir gompa. Thereafter proceed by jeeps to visit alchi gompa & proceed to uley. Dinner and overnight at uley camps.
After breakfast leave for lamayuru monastery dotted with moon land craetesr and peaks with box lunch. Visit lamayuru gompa. Return to uleytokpo enroute visiting resong monastery with 2 hrs trek. Dinner and overnight in uley camp.
After breakfast return drive to leh visiting phyang monastery enroute. Check-in and lunch at hotel. Pm: free at leisure. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
After early breakfast leave for nubra valley with pack / picnic luncheon, crossing the worlds highest motorable road – the khardungla pass ( 5570 m). Evening visit the famous samasthanling gompa at sumur. Overnight at camp.
Day excursion to tegar, hunder and diskit monasteries with picnic / pack lunch. Return to camp for dinner and overnight stay. Harsh land and conditions with people lving on bare basics in moonland dessert setting on shyok river. Can ride double hump camels.
After breakfast return drive to Leh. On arrival check -in hotel. Rest of the day free at leisure. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Early morning transfer to airport to connect flight back to delhi.
